7 Things I Like about the Kardashians

The Kardashians have definitely gotten a flood of criticism in recent years—everything from their multiple cosmetic surgeries, their unrealistic photo-shopping, their lack of talent (according to Hollywood standards, anyway), to accusations of their cultural appropriation, conniving social climbing, and man-stealing. And as a fan of theirs, I certainly don’t agree with everything they say and do, but whether you agree or disagree, here are 7 things I do like about members of one of America’s most famous families.

1. They know how to make money.

According to TMZ, each of the Kardashians currently rake in around a hefty $4.5 million for each season of Keeping up with the Kardashians. (Being executive producers of the show, Kris, Kim, Khloe, and Kourtney actually make a bit more than that). And of course, Kim has her own line of shapewear, beauty and fragrance lines. Khloe has her own fashion line of denim and sportswear, dubbed Good American. And Kendall (while technically not a Kardashian, but still in the family) is making mega bucks as a fashion model, as is her sister Kylie, who, not only models, but was named by Forbes in 2019 as the youngest self-made billionaire with her line of cosmetics. And I haven’t even mentioned the sisters’ Instagram endorsement deals and a few other sources of wealth.

Need I say more on that one?

2. They’re gorgeous.

Long, luscious hair, flawless skin, bodies to die for—they have it all. And no doubt, with make-up artists, stylists, and personal trainers at their beckon call, they can easily afford to look great. If the rest of us had all that, we’d look like a million bucks, too. Now it’s true that some of the Kardashians have had surgery to enhance their looks—lip injections, butt implants, breast augmentation, facial fillers, and probably more. But it’s their bodies. Who are we to judge? In my opinion, they actually looked good before they had all those procedures.

3. Kim has a passion for justice.

She went to the White House in 2018 to talk to Trump about prison reform and to lobby for Alice Johnson, an African American woman in her 60’s serving a life sentence for a first-time drug-offense. As a result of that meeting, Johnson was granted clemency. Kim continues to use her platform to push for prison reform. But it doesn’t end there. Kim is currently studying to earn her law degree, which she’ll probably use to lobby for other positive changes in our sometimes faulty justice system.

Kim, you go girl!

4. The Kardashian-Jenners eat healthy.
I admire people that take care of their health—and this family does exactly that. According to the Showbiz Cheat Sheet website, their diets include salads, fruits and vegetables, avocados, hummus, and lean proteins that include slow-roasted lemon rosemary chicken, grilled lime chicken, and lemon thyme halibut, to name a few. (Yum, this is making me hungry). Greek yogurt and Atkins nut bars are a staple in Kim’s diet, while Koutney keeps coconut milk and almond milk cheese on hand; and Kylie likes fresh-squeezed orange juice. But of course, the Kardashians have their occasional cheat meal, such as when they order from Popeye’s, or when Kim heads to McDonald’s where her favorites are chicken nuggets, cheese burgers and fries. Pizza and pasta are other favorite once-in-a-while treats for the Kardashian-Jenner clan.
Who said they had to be perfect?

5. They are super organized.

According to MyDomaine.com, Kim, Kourtney, and Khloe are “meticulously organized.” But I have a feeling that Khloe tops the list on this one. The Buzz Feed website reports that Khloe has organized a staggering 26 items, including her vast collections of shoes, sunglasses, jewelry, hair extensions, shampoos and conditioners, sports bras, and shirts. Even each of her individual food items have their own dedicated space, such as meats, pretzels, beverages, cereal, pre-cut veggies, Oreo cookies, and nuts.

Wow! I’d absolutely love to be that organized.

6. Kim isn’t fazed by her critics.

Showbiz Cheat Sheet and Time.com says that she’s been through controversies and scandals; been called vain and stupid. Kim said she used to get upset and cry when mean things were said about her. She realizes that she made some mistakes in the past but she refuses to let that define her. Over time, she reports that she’s grown a thicker skin, has no time for haters, and couldn’t care less what Internet trolls have to say about her.

And anyway, the woman has a net worth of $370 million, so why should she even care what her detractors say?

7. Their difficult life experiences are relatable to many of our own.

Take away the fame and the wealth, and the Kardashian-Jenners bear a striking resemblance to many typical families. How so? Well, they’ve had to cope—either directly or indirectly—with all of the below:
• Infidelity – Both Khloe’s ex-husband, Lamar Odom and her baby’s daddy, Tristan Thompson
• Divorce – Kris, Kim and Khloe
• Births out-of-wedlock – Kourtney, Khloe, and Kylie
• Death – Kris’ ex-husband; and Kim, Kourtney and Khloe’s father, Robert Kardashian, Sr.
• Weight problems – Rob, Jr. and previously Khloe
• Alcoholism – Kourtney’s ex-beau and father of her children, Scott Disick
• Drug addiction – Kourtney’s ex-husband, Lamar Odom
• Custody battle – Rob, Jr.
• Family feuds – all of them!

Yikes! That’s a lot of hard knocks to have been through. Can you relate to any of these?
All in all, the Kardashian-Jenners are a captivating bunch, a force to be reckoned with, a family (at least in some ways) to emulate. Whether we keep up with them or not, they’re here for the long haul.
Shine on, family. Shine on.
